Claude Code skills for code review
Short answer: install one general review skill and one security review skill. Good starts are Sentry's code-review and Trail of Bits' differential-review. Each one is a SKILL.md file that Claude Code loads when you ask it to review a change. Our database tags 11,365 open-license skills for code review, so the 5 below are a start, not the whole field.

5 code review skills to start with
| Skill | Repo | License | What it covers | Install |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| code-review | getsentry/skills | Apache-2.0 | Reviews code the way Sentry engineers do | npx skills add getsentry/skills --skill code-review --agent claude-code |
| code-review | anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins | Apache-2.0 | Checks changes for security, performance and correctness | npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill code-review --agent claude-code |
| find-bugs | getsentry/skills | Apache-2.0 | Finds bugs and security issues in your branch changes | npx skills add getsentry/skills --skill find-bugs --agent claude-code |
| differential-review | trailofbits/skills | CC-BY-SA-4.0 | Security review of a diff | npx skills add trailofbits/skills --skill differential-review --agent claude-code |
| review-walkthrough | trailofbits/skills | CC-BY-SA-4.0 | Builds an HTML walkthrough of a change for the reviewer | npx skills add trailofbits/skills --skill review-walkthrough --agent claude-code |
The npx skills command comes from the open skills CLI. The --agent claude-code flag puts the skill in .claude/skills/, where Claude Code looks for it. Swap the flag for cursor or codex to install the same SKILL.md for those agents.
How to use a review skill
Ask Claude Code to review your branch or a pull request. The skill tells it what to check and how to report it. Run the review before you open the PR, then again after big changes. One general skill plus one security skill covers most teams. More than that and the skills can give mixed instructions.
Match review skills to your stack
A review skill for your language or framework catches more than a general one. Our Python guide, React guide and Next.js guide list stack picks. For security review, see Claude Code security skills. For tests, see Claude Code skills for testing.
FAQ
Is there an official Claude Code code review skill?
Anthropic publishes a code-review skill in its knowledge-work-plugins repo. It is in the table above. Claude Code has its own review commands, and a skill adds your team's rules on top.
Can a skill review pull requests on GitHub? A skill runs inside Claude Code. Point Claude Code at the PR branch or diff and ask for a review. To post comments on GitHub you need the GitHub CLI or an MCP server.
Do these skills work in Cursor or Codex?
SKILL.md is a shared format. Change --agent claude-code to cursor or codex and the CLI installs to that agent's folder.
How many review skills should I install? Start with 2. Add a stack skill once you see what the general one misses.
